that's great if all you're doing is sharing a print, but if you're using something along the lines of Edgecam solid machinist, you still need the original solid 3d file. I don't think any of the cam apps take in dwf.

STL is still the predominant format for prototyping. Autodesk continues to work with its partners to expand the reach of DWF.
