CIP - You are in Control!

I wanted to take this opportunity to follow up on an earlier article we posted on the blog regarding our CIP (Customer Improvement Program). Here is the link, for those of you who missed it then:

http://dwf.blogs.com/beyond_the_paper/2007/02/autodesk_cip_we.html

Although the Customer Improvement Program suggests we want to improve "you," we actually just want to improve our software with your help. To cut the long story short, even though we are appreciating any participation and feedback data collected through the CIP functionality, you are certainly the one in the driver's seat.

Individuals can decline participation when prompted at first, but that somehow does not cover those of you, who are Administrators and have to oversee much more than a single user workstation. I figured it would be great to provide you with the registry information and allow you to do the same.

Individual user key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\MC3 (The MC3OptIn value controls whether the current user is sending CIP data)

Globally: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\MC3 (The MC3Enabled flag turns CIP on and off)

Hope this is going to make life a little easier for all.

thx Volker,
Barry Ralphs

Thanks Volker. I found you can also replace the CIP menu item in the startup pane with the About command.

Relevant lines to modify are in startup.htm and local.js (for the last mod):

ExpressViewerHtmlUtil.Viewer.ExecuteCommandEx("ShowAboutDialog",0);
CIPSpan.innerHTML = "About...";
CIPAccelSpan.innerHTML = "";
_CustomerMenuLowerKey = "a";

Put underline tags around the "A" in "About"

it is really beneficial and fantastic chance for the customer to improve them ,
and i am really happy about you idea and technics.
